Having Children in Today's World

Dear Parson: QUESTION: We are a young Christian couple and are debating whether we should bring children into this trouble world. What is your advice?

ANSWER: The world was not exactly trouble free when your parents birthed you. Do you wish you had not been born? The golden rule (Matthew 7:12) suggests you give your intended children a chance at life as well.

I say intended because God has not cancelled His plan for marriages that can produce and properly raise children to do so. "And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful and multiply, and replenish the earth..." (Genesis 1:28) Children are also part of God's plan to bring joy, reward and heritage into your marriage (Psalm 127:3-5).

The concerns you have can be met by God's grace, protection, and faith in His promises which are also available for your children. "No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shall condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD (Isaiah 54:17). Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it (1 Thessalonians 5:24).

The world was very troubled in Esther's time when the whole Jewish race was about it be wiped out. Her uncle Mordecai said to her, "Who knoweth whether thou art come to the kingdom for such a time as this?" God then used her to rescue the Jewish race. He also has great plans for your children concerning such a time as this.
